I have questions, can I just call?
Yes, call us at 201.79.MUSIC or contact us here. We’re friendly and we’d love to help.
Why Music Gorilla?
The music and film industry use MG as a resource (here’s what they’re saying). We find and create opportunities for your music. We offer flexible memberships. We don’t take any part of your deal. Expect personalized attention with the ability to reach an actual staff member. Call us at 201.79.MUSIC, chat with us below or email us here for a prompt reply.
What kinds of submissions will I get?
All types; feature films, indie films, documentaries, TV, web, artists albums, video games and more. The submissions go directly to the party responsible for the opportunity.
No bait and switch submissions – for instance, you won’t submit just to have someone tell you they can improve your song for a fee. We’ve seen it elsewhere, so if someone’s soliciting, let us know, we have rottweilers, they’re a loyal breed. 😉
Are the submissions screened?
The short answer is rarely. Generally, the decision maker on the project is the one listening to your submissions. But in the case of high volume submissions, it can become necessary to screen for genre/quality of recording requirements. In other instances, we are limited to how many tracks we can send in for an opportunity. We always state in the submission if we are screening it.
How do I receive MG’s opportunities for film, TV, albums and Major Label showcases?
It’s your choice. You’ll find Current Opportunities on the home page, or via email, Facebook or phone – 201.79.MUSIC. We even tweet ’em, so follow us here. We’ll text them to you too, so make sure we have your mobile number on file. It’s like having a personal assistant with opportunities for your music. Check your email filters to make sure you’re receiving them.
Tell me about your showcases during SXSW
Although we are not affiliated with SXSW, we showcase as many as 50 artists each year at our MG Showcases during the festivities. Our shows have a reputation for always running on time and having great sound engineers, at a great venue located right in the heart of the festival. Don’t confuse us with companies of similar name, it gets confusing but there’s only one Music Gorilla. MG’s reputation speaks for itself.
Tell me about your live Major Label showcases.
Here’s how it works: you play a 45 minute set, you’re introduced to Major Label A&R and you’ll get written feedback. It’s a free show at a venue that is open to the general public. It’s all about networking and getting feedback from someone in the know, and in some cases leads to getting signed, like it did for this band. All MG members are welcome to attend and drop off hard copy.
Past label attendees include Epic, Sony, Hollywood, J, Interscope, RCA, Columbia, Island/Def Jam and more. You can view our current showcase opportunities here.
What about beats, instrumentals and covers?
Expect submissions for all genres. However we’re about original material – no covers here (unless you possess all legal rights).
Is Basic Membership actually free?
Yes. You’ll get an Artist Page, all of our opportunities and into our industry database for free. When the perfect opportunity comes along, you can look into earning or buying credits or upgrading to Pro Membership, where all submissions are included.
Basic membership is free, why go Pro?
Each and every opportunity we send out is included with Pro Membership, no submission fees…ever. As a Pro Member, your music is instantly uploaded to industry pages, where they can contact you and add you to their watchlist at the click of a button on your Pro Member page. Pro Membership is for artists who feel their music is ready for placement and are looking to submit to as many opportunities as fits their music, at no additional charge.
However, if you’re only going to submit to 3 or less opportunities per month or just want to hang out for awhile and check out the opportunities, then Basic Membership is for you. No worries, you’ll still be in the database, you can upgrade anytime.
What are credits?
Music Gorilla members use credits to submit their music to film and TV opportunities. 1 credit = $1. Submissions generally cost just 5 credits. You can purchase credits here. Credits never expire. Contact us to find out how to earn credits!
Have musicians found success at Music Gorilla?
Yes. Our artist members have been signed to label, songwriting, publishing, and distribution deals, and received placement in films and network TV. We’ve showcased hundreds of indie artists live for Major Label A&R, you can read a blog post about some of their successes here. We’ll provide you with awesome opportunities, but ultimately, it’s your music that will determine success. View our testimonials here.
