1.How do I create an MP3 to upload my music to musicgorilla.com?top

In order to upload your music, follow the directions below.
- You will need a computer and your music in order to upload your music onto musicgorilla.com. If your music is already in an MP3 format, all you need to do is push the browse button where it says “song” on the sign up page or on your “My Songs” page. Find the file on your computer and select the file.

- Before you try to upload your music, confirm that it is in MP3 format or it will not upload correctly. The easiest way to test your MP3 file is to play it. If you need a player, here are some common free ones available for you to download on the Internet.
For Windows:
MusicMatch: http://www.musicmatch.com/download/
Winamp: http://www.winamp.com/winamp/download/

For Macintosh:
Macamp: http://www.macamp.net/download.shtml
RealPlayer: http://www.real.com/RealPlayer:
http://www.real.com/

- If your file is NOT in an MP3 format, you will need an encoder.
MP3 encoders (also known as "rippers") are the software programs you will need in order to create MP3 files. In general, most media players, (including the sites listed above), can change the format of the music on your CD into an MP3. Here are additional places you can go for free MP3 encoders:
http://www.convert-wma-mp3.com
http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/All_To_MP3_Converter
http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Ashampoo_MP3_Check_and_Convert_2_0

You can also spend about $20 and get one that comes with tech support and puts out a more professional product. - If your music is on a CD or saved on your computer you will need to use either your encoder, or your media player to convert your music into an MP3. To convert your music, start your encoder and select the song you want to convert into an MP3. We suggest that when encoding you choose the following settings:
Bit rate: 128 kbps (or higher)
Channels: Joint Stereo
Sample rate: 44.1 KHz

Now that your music is in an MP3 format, upload your song. Once your song is uploaded, you can go straight to your “My Gorilla” page to hear it and recommend it!

2.I can't upload my MP3. Please help.top

Sorry you're having trouble and thanks for your patience. In order to upload your music onto musicgorilla.com, it must be an MP3 file. To convert your song into an MP3 format, please read below. Uploading MP3s can be quite complicated. Please keep in mind the old adage “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” It may take several tries for your MP3 to upload. You can also contact Technical Support at tech@musicgorilla.com.

3.Does my MP3 have to be a certain size?top

Your MP3 may not be larger than 5mb. The reason we have to limit the size of your music file is because if it is larger than 5mb you will not only find it very difficult to upload it onto musicgorilla.com, it will also slow the site down and make it very difficult for the industry to access and listen to your music. If your music is larger than 5mb we will send you an email informing you that it is too large, we will then remove it from the site. You will receive an upload credit, and you can either compress the file further or choose a different file to upload.

4.What genre should I select for my song?top

You should make sure that you are uploading your song to the genre that fits it best. If you absolutely can’t figure out which genre fits your song, ask a friend… they should be able to tell you whether the song sounds more like one genre over another. If that fails, upload the song into the genre that you have chosen for yourself or your band. If the genre you would like to upload your song to is not listed, email us at feedback@musicgorilla.com and request that it be added to the list. We will do our best to accommodate all genres.

5.Can I upload a newer version of my song?top

No, once a song is uploaded onto musicgorilla.com, it is available for Music Industry reps and fans to listen to and rate. In order to keep “Gorilla Focus” accurate, a song cannot be exchanged for a different version. Most importantly, if we allowed you to upload a new version of your song, in place of the old one, we would not be able to offer you our great guarantee!

6.I have tried everything and I cannot upload my MP3. What do I do?top

The first thing you should do is contact Technical support at tech@musicgorilla.com. Most likely, they can walk you through it. If that fails, and you’ve reached the end of your rope, don’t despair. You can send us your file and we will upload it for you. There will be a charge of $3 per song that we upload for you. Please Contact Us before mailing anything so we know it’s coming and can tell you how to send it.

7.I’m under 18. Can I Upload A Song?top

Yes, but unfortunately only individuals 18 and older can enter into contracts. Therefore, you must have your parent or guardian agree to the terms of the Artist Agreement for you.

8.My song is not a cover song, but, it has some samples, can I upload it?top

No, you cannot upload cover songs or songs with samples because of ownership issues. When you upload a song onto musicgorilla.com you are stating that you own the rights to that song. You can read more on this subject in the Artist Agreement. We strongly recommend that you copyright your music. Here is the link to the copyright office so that you can begin copyrighting your song right now. www.clickandcopyright.com.

9.How do I know how many uploads I have left?top

You can tell how many more songs you can upload by going to your “My Songs” on your “My Gorilla” page. You have 3 free uploads, once you have used your free uploads, a page will come up that allows you to purchase more. You can either purchase a single upload, or a 10 upload package.

10.What is a link? top

A link sends instructions to your browser to take you to a different page, either within the Music Gorilla website, or outside of it to a different website. Links, or hyperlinks, on musicgorilla.com have a shade of blue behind them, or change in some way. When you click on a link, you'll be redirected to a different page. Some links will be a full URL, www.mtv.com and others will be a word or sentence with a line underneath: Artist Agreement.

11.I changed my band picture, but it doesn’t seem to be working.....top

If it seems that pages aren't updating the way they should, your browser probably has the page in “cache”, (your browser’s memory and history area) and your browser is displaying an old page. Try clicking on "refresh" on the page and see if that makes a difference.

12.I can't log on. What do I do?top

Please check through the following list of possible solutions:
- Did you get your confirmation email when you registered? If not, you need to email us at tech@musicgorilla.com and a representative will work with you to fix the problem.

- If you did get the confirmation email, did you click on the link in the message? If not, you need to do that. You can also cut and paste the link into your browser's window, to return to musicgorilla.com.

- If you did get the confirmation email but you've lost it, email us at tech@musicgorilla.com and we will activate your account manually.

- Do you have "cookies" turned off in your browser? If you do, you'll need to turn them back on in order for the site to work properly.

13.JavaScript: How to turn it on…top

MusicGorilla.com, like many other websites, uses Java Script. You must turn it on to fully use the site.

Here's how:
In recent versions of Netscape Communicator you'll find your cookie options under the "file" menu, in "preferences" under the "advanced" option.

14.I forgot my password.top

No Problem. Simply click on the "Forgot your password?" link on the Home page, and the database will send you a new one. When you log on with the new password, you will have the option to change it to something you will remember.

15.I'm using a Mac and I can't hear any songs, what do I do?top

If you are using a Mac, please go to this website: Download MAC Media Player and download the compatible Mac media player. You will need this player to listen to songs on musicgorilla.com
